At about 8 am, I started at the first parking lot. Due to ocasional break-in at cars, It's recommended to take this and to walk the additional 10 minutes to the Eagle Creek Trail.
To start early has two advantages: First it's still cool on a hot day, and second you can escape the crowds, especially on Weekends.
The trail ascends smoothly, but steadely, at the border of the creek through the forest. But you never feel like ascending a mountain. After about 1/2 hour you pass the first open areas, and at least mid of May, when I didi the trail, it was surrounded by a many many flowers.
